We are writing to share important updates about upcoming NEA conferences. The nation’s students, educators, and all their families are at the forefront of our minds as we grapple with the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. When we make hard decisions, the safety of our members, students, staff, and guests is our top priority. We have concluded that we must cancel many of our upcoming conferences. In making this decision, we fully considered the human, programmatic, and financial impacts, but it all came back to safety. The following conferences have been canceled: National Leadership Summit in Orlando (March 13-15) Higher Education Conference in Orlando (March 12-13) NEA-Retired Conference in Orlando (March 15-16) ESP Conference in New Orleans (March 20-22) Conference attendees will receive a separate email shortly with information for cancelling travel and other logistical details. If you have a question about your conference or logistics, please fill out this form. Please be assured we will send out additional information as soon as possible, but we want to notify you of the cancellations immediately. This is an unprecedented situation. Because of the size and scope of these events, we will be unable to reschedule them for this year. NEA leaders and staff pour countless hours into planning and running these conferences. It’s work they love doing, because our core values are to support and strengthen NEA members. We’re making this decision to cancel these events out of that same dedication. Your families, students, and fellow NEA members rely on your health, safety, and strength every single day. We simply can’t ask you to take that risk. We’re erring on the side of safety. At the end of the day we can always hold another conference next year, but we can’t be flexible with the health of all our members and the students they serve. NEA staff will follow-up with you shortly, but in the meantime please stay calm, stay vigilant, and remain united in our mission to serve our members, students, and communities. TOGETHER, we can and will get through this crisis. In solidarity, Lily Eskelsen García President National Education Association Kim Anderson Executive Director National Education Association |
