Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Black Independence Day, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is an important time to reflect on and celebrate the resilience and achievements of Black Americans.
